Ken Gills Inspirationsquelle und Arbeitsgrundlage sind mystische
"stone circles".
Diese Ausstellung ist Teil eines laufenden Projekts, das das
"Dunbeacon Stone Circle" County Cork beinhaltet.
Ken Gill erarbeitet mit den Medien Malerei, Bildhauerei und
"Frottage" die altertümlichen, teilweise nicht
erhaltenen "stone circles" aufs neue und lässt
sie wieder auferstehen. Sein Bestreben liegt im Hervorkehren
der innewohnenden Energie sowie des Rätsels der Entstehung
dieser Monumente. Seine Objekte erhalten einen zeitlosen,
in sich ruhenden Charakter.
Mit Hilfe des Freilicht-Raums und des Schattens werden diese
Eigenschaften komplettiert. In den begleitenden Malereien
werden die Elemente der "stone circles" – wie
Schwerkraft, Bewegung, Energie, Textur, Ikonografie und Raum
auf eine zweidimensionale Oberfläche projiziert.
The phantom stone circle is Ken Gill, the West Cork painter
and sculptor, wrestling with a religio-artistic tradition
submerged under layers of time, space and earth. Attracted
to the Cunbeacon stone circle by an intuition of deep energy
and timeless harmony, Gill’s project is his iconoclastic
attempt to redefine and translate the meaning of such a legacy,
largely ignored, yet hovering on the edges of our consciousness.
Gill’s project takes the megalithic monument at face
value, his stones have been the center of eons of pilgrimage,
meditiation and study, but they have also been acted on by
the moon, the wind and rain, and for Gill this is just as
important. They are icons of man-made mystery, but they are
also natural objects subject to the laws of physics. Man and
nature idelibly intertwined, impossible to categorize with
certainty. The stones have become idea, and the idea has left
